What is the relationship between the two speakers?

W: Sorry, Professor Smith, I know your office hour is Wednesday, but I have some urgent problems, would you spare me some minutes now?
M: En, OK, would you wait for a few minutes, I must finish this email first. What do you want to ask?
W: I am a student of History Department, this semester I have registered your course—How to Perform Research Projects. I would like to carry out a project on climate in Asia at the end of this semester. I have made some preparation, but I still have some questions.
M: Take it easy, I will help you. What have you done?
W: I have got my data, so I am starting to summarize it now. But I am afraid my data is not enough, I am not sure what else to put into the report. I wonder what I should do next, shall I continue to collect more information?
M: Think about what you need to include if you are going to explain your research project to someone who knows nothing about your topic. That is the key to success! More materials and statistics does not mean a perfect research paper.
W: Uhh, I got it. I had planned to go to other universities’ libraries or bigger book stores in downtown area to find more information before I came here, now I think I will restudy my statistics and cases first.
M: Right, and remember to analyse your statistics according to some standard so that you can use them systematically later in your research project.
W: OK, I really appreciate your help.
