答案
May 10, 2005 Dear Tom, I’m very glad to receive your letter of May 8. First, allow me to extend my hearty congratulations to you on your new life in university. From now on, you are to enjoy the colorful college life, and you are soon to feel confused with the tremendous difference between college life and middle school life. As a sophomore, I think that college life is freer than that of middle school. Therefore, you have to pay attention to these two points. First, there are many optional courses among which you can choose some important courses according to your interest. This means that you are much freer to learn what you want to learn, which is quite different from the way you learn the courses in middle school. Moreover, the freedom lies not only in the academic studies but also in your personal lives. Various kinds of special clubs and interest groups can entitle you to enjoy enough private space and time after class. All these activities help us enrich our spare time more freely. Therefore, college life provides us with more freedom in our study as well as private life. It is very important to arrange your life properly. I hope both of you will cherish this precious golden four year period in your life. All my best. yours, David
