答案 With the urbanization, more and more farmland makes room for buildings and road construction. The farmland becomes less and less, which aroused much attention from all the society. With the rapid economic growth, newly completed highways, factories , mines, apartment buildings, sports fields and graveyards have swallowed up a large number of fertile fields. Moreover, industrial pollution , fertilizer abuse, sandstorms, floods and droughts have further eroded our farmland. We have a fast growing population to feed; how can we relax our efforts to preserve farmland? From now on, we should try every means, fight any battle and pay any price to preserve our farmland. But after all, how to preserve our farmland? In my opinion, specific policies with regard to preservation of arable land are to be laid down, and strict measures to be adopted. The soil is to be improved through scientific farming; concrete action is to be taken to prevent floods, droughts and sandstorms from damaging our precious farmland; the building of factories, schools, houses, lodgings, etc. should not be allowed to consume farmland unless it is absolutely necessary. There is only one earth on which we can live. We can not afford to waste any land. The far-reaching significance of land preservation means the safeguarding of our life and of our national interest.
