答案 In the given picture, a man leaning forward with an axe in his hands is trying to cut down a tree, which is bending down in the direction of a baby sleeping in his cradle. What disturbs us is that the man is apparently not aware of the danger that is to befall the helpless baby. This drawing implies that human beings are now treating nature in a way that threatens the survival of their offspring. We human beings, under the curse of their innate greed, shortsightedness and extreme ignorance, are merely absorbed in short-term needs and profits. Large areas of woods, fields and arable land are replaced by factories belching out thick smoke; rivers and lakes once teemed with all kinds of fishes are contaminated by hundreds of tons of waste water. What will happen if people keep on doing like this regardless of environment protection? Apparently, at present, the hazy weather, the greenhouse effect and the new diseases are the painful lessons we should learn from, which has raised a wake-up call on the sustainable development of the whole world. Therefore, it is high time that measures should be taken to counter the negative effects of modernization. We should keep in mind that living in harmony with the great nature benefits us as well as our descendants. After all, we have only one Earth.
