答案 As is shown in this photo, a water skier is standing on the ski on water. He would have sunk into the bottom of the water but for the long string which pulls him along. Clearly, the string attached to a speedy motor boat provides him with enough momentum to stay on the surface of water. It is not difficult to find the symbolic meaning of this photograph: a person without a goal as his motivation is like a water skier without a momentum as pulling force. Since a goal is very important and significant for us, what should we pay attention to when we set a goal? First, we must have a definite, clear practical ideal. Our goal should be out of reach but not out of sight. Second, we must have necessary means, such as wisdom, money, materials, and methods, to achieve our ends. Third, our goal should be flexible so as to be adjusted when necessary. For example, a salesman may say, "I want to sell 10 accounts this week. " If he sells only five that week, he is not ready to die. Instead, he should tell himself, "Five isn’t too bad. You know, next week maybe I’11 sell 15. " To sum up, goals are not only absolutely necessary to motivate us, but also provide the energy that powers our lives and channels us into action. However, when we set a goal for ourselves, we should keep our goals be smart; that is, be specific, measurable, assignable, realistic and time related, only by which can we make our goal feasible and effective.
