A Russian electric company has won a 419-million-dollar contract to complete construction of the Iraq’ s largest power plant.
    The head of Iraq’ s Department of Electricity Projects says the plant in Eusufia, south of Baghdad, is one of the largest contracts signed under the UN oil-for-food program. That program allows Iraq to sell crude oil under LIN supervision in return for humanitarian aid. The UN sanctions committee must still approve the contracts. The electric company officials expect to complete the project within a little more than 5 years. Iraq’ s power network was seriously hit in bombing raids starting with the Gulf War in 1991.
