答案 Living in a Small Town Although most city people don’t think so, there are at least three major advantages to living in a small town. The first is the ease with which a person can get around. Neither riding a bicycle nor taking a bus presents a problem: the rush hour lasts only twenty minutes or so, and the roads are never crowded at any other time. If people don’t want to ride a bike, most places are so close together that they can walk. The second advantage is the low cost of living. Apartments rent for less money than those in big cities. Groceries are less expensive; vegetables and all sorts of meat are cheaper in a small town, especially if people take advantage of farmers’ markets. Moreover, the greatest benefit of a small-town life is the friendliness. Almost everyone knows everyone else. The people next door are neighbours, not strangers. Store clerks treat people well because they know them personally. People often have a kind word for each other, and few people are lonely. I’ll take these advantages over any that a city can offer.
