答案
Number of Scholarships The graph above shows the fluctuations in the number of students receiving scholarships in an eight-year period. As is shown in the graph, the number of scholarships given rose each year between 1986 and 1993. In 1986, there were only about 50 students receiving scholarships. But the number of scholarships given kept growing until 1993. By that year there were more than 500 scholarships given, an increase nearly by 9 times over that in 1986. However, beginning in 1993, the number decreased. What followed was a sharp decline in the number. In 1994, there were only a little more than 400 students being granted scholarships. The steady increase in the number of students receiving scholarships in the eight-year period might be caused by many factors, such as steady increase in economy, government’s emphasis on education and more private donations to the universities. What caused the sharp decline in 1994 is hard to say. Financial problems were probably one of the causes for that.
