答案 As can be easily observed from the cartoon, today’s postgraduates in our country are lacking the research ability. Just take a look at the professor in the picture. He is worrying and wondering why the past postgraduates as a whole are more competent, though they are considerably outnumbered by the present postgraduates. It is obvious that the issue of postgraduates’ research capacity has really become more and more serious. To account for the lack of ability, educators have located several causes as listed below. For one thing, some universities are only interested in the profit brought by the expansion of enrollment, giving little consideration to whether they can afford the education of so many postgraduates or not, let alone being concerned about the improvement of the capacity of these postgraduates. For another, some postgraduates believe that once they obtain the masters’ diplomas, they are bound to get decent jobs no matter what they have acquired during the postgraduate period. They often concentrate on how to lead a leisurely and luxurious life. The current situation calls for an immediate solution indeed. In my opinion, both the universities and the postgraduates should play their role. On one hand, universities should put more emphasis on the education of postgraduates. On the other hand, postgraduates should be aware of the importance of their research capacity, and try every means to enhance it. Only in these co-operative efforts, I believe, may the problem be effectively resolved.
