What is the speaker doing?

Since our paper comes out weekly, we aren’t frantically busy like other newspapers. However, when it comes to local sports, our deadlines are tight. The paper comes out every Thursday, so people know what’s going on over the weekend. This means the paper is printed early Thursday morning. This enables us to get the scores from Wednesday’s games in. Your desk will be here, next to the other intern, Rebecca, who you’ll meet later. You’ll be working mainly on laying out the paper, editing, and writing headlines. Before I talk about your responsibilities, let me show you the rest of the office and the press, where the newspaper is actually printed.
