答案 The diagram above clearly shows dramatic change has occurred in the recruitment of Master of Engineering ( ME ) in the past seven years. According to the figures given, we can see the number of recruitment of ME has been on a steady rise all the time. In 1998, the number was at a low level, only about 2, 500. Surprisingly, it jumped to more than 35, 000 in 2004. Some driving factors that contribute to the above-mentioned change may be summarized as follows. First of all, China has become particularly active in manufacturing, which leads to an increasing demand for qualified engineers. In addition, the development of job market on the whole cannot keep pace with the expansion of college graduates, which obliges many students to stay on campus for another three years to get better prepared for their career. Finally, we must admit that working pressure is another important factor. Taking all these factors into consideration, we may predict that with the rapid development of our society, the number of recruitment of ME will keep growing in the forthcoming decade. And it’s of no necessity for the public to regard it with too much anxiety.
