YES
To job holders, working long hours may cause a feeling of stress and psychological disturbance.
Long working hours tend to exert pressure on the employment market and make fewer employment opportunities available. A high unemployment rate is always regarded as a threat to a country’s economy. What’s more, people with parenting responsibilities would be disadvantaged, because they are neither able nor willing to work long hours.
To employers, long working hours would lead to not only the lower quality of work output but also the high turnover of staff and absenteeism.
NO
People who are happy at work put in great effort in their jobs, work longer hours, and are more productive than those who aren’t. They work 25% more time than the unhappy employees.
As your salary increases, the time you spend at work also tends to increase. So you have to either settle with lower pay and more free time or higher pay and no free time at all. Of course, there are some people who don’t care that they have to work longer hours so long as they get that extra pay.
Overtime working is a method of increasing job security and getting promotion opportunities.

Should Working Long Hours Be Restricted? Among the regulations on protecting employees’ benefits, the most contentious one has always been the compulsory limit on working hours. There are directives preventing workers from being forced to work for long hours, because it will lead to enormous job stress, fewer job openings and low working efficiency. But some people who are in opposition to restricting working hours point out that overtime working can increase employees’ income as well as their chances for advancement. As to me, I am in support of the limitation on working long hours. In the first place, working long hours will reduce employees’ leisure time and communication with others. As a result, it would be hard for them to maintain and improve their relations with family members and friends, which is detrimental to their life. Moreover, people are more liable to get fatigued and sick because of the extension of working time, which is a threat to their health. In addition, the results of working long hours are the chronic stress and consequent psychological problems. In brief, there might be some exemptions, but the restriction should be applied to the majority of workers. And people should learn to love themselves, arrange their time wisely and have a proper rest, so that they can perform well at work.
