— I think that TV has a great influence on the lives of people in my country, and on the lives of many people in other countries. TV is a common way of getting the news and a popular way of spending an evening is sitting down in front of the TV. In my country, almost every household has a TV set. I think that it is generally a good thing, but sometimes people become too involved in watching it rather than doing something else like meeting friends or keeping fit. — I think that most children watch a reasonable amount, mainly because their parents keep a track of how much they watch. Some children, particularly those whose parents don’t keep an eye on how much they watch or who have a TV in their bedroom, watch too much. However, on the other hand, there are plenty of kids who hardly watch any TV, preferring to spend more time on their homework or on outdoor activities. I think that it is mainly up to the parents to keep a balance between the activities that their children are involved in. — In my country, there are no limits at all on the mount of advertising that can be shown on TV. The result is that there is far too much, in my opinion. I know that in some countries, there are limits and I think that this would be a good idea in my country. An alternative would be to increase the prices of advertising on TV. That way the TV company wouldn’t lose out financially. — Yes, I think that there is too much. So many films contain violence in them nowadays. I know that some people find it exciting, but I think that most of it is pointless and adds nothing to the programme or film. I also think that there’s too much sex on TV. I mean, I can understand kissing, but more than that doesn’t really make the story of the programme or film any better. I’m not in favour of banning violence and mild sex scenes, but I wish that programme makers would show some restraint. — Yes. We get plenty of foreign TV programmes. Most of them are films from America or documentaries about other countries, showing the lifestyle or wildlife there. I really enjoy the documentaries and, according to the newspapers, they get high ratings. American films seem to be popular all over the world. they are exciting and clearly the directors and producers often let their fantasies nm wild! Why not— it’s entertaining. One downside is that some people think that life in America is really like it is shown in the films, which is, of course, completely mistaken.
