In view of the difficult living and working conditions in the Middle East, it is not【C6】______that the pay is high to attract suitable workers. Many engineers and technicians can earn at least【C7】______money in the Middle East as they can in their own country, and this is a major attraction. An allied benefit is the low taxation or complete lack of it. This increases the net a-mount of pay received by visiting workers and is very popular with them.
Sometimes a disadvantage has a compensating advantage. 【C8】______, the difficult living conditions often lead to increased friendship when workers have to depend on each other【C9】______safety and comfort. 【C10】______, many migrant workers can save large sums of money partly【C11】______the lack of entertainment facilities. 选项
A、twice as much
B、twice as many
C、as much as twice
D、as many as twice
答案
A
解析
选项C和D本身都不是英语中正确的表达方式,因而根本不在考虑之列,选项A和B两者都是“……的两倍”的意思,但区别是twice as much用于不可数的物质名词,twice as many用于可数名词。又如:They are consuming twice as much fish as they used to.他们现在吃的鱼比以前多了一倍。The school is enrolling twice as many students as it did two years ago.这所学校的招生人数比两年前翻了一番。
