Private Tutoring (1) At present, private tutoring is becoming unprecedentedly visible in China. According to a recent survey conducted by China Daily, the proportion of parents sparing much money to find private tutors has reached as high as 88.3 percent. (2) To account for this phenomenon, people have come up with various reasons as follows. To begin with, people are (3) attaching greater importance to education and expecting higher of their children. What’ s more, as private tutoring is usually (4) one-to-one, the teacher knows the strong points as well as the weak points of their pupils and may help them improve study performance more easily. However, private tutoring has its own disadvantages. It takes up so much of the pupils’ time that they can hardly find enough time for rest and entertainment. (5) As far as I am concerned, greater emphasis should be laid on the improvement of classroom teaching quality. Only in this way can the younger generation be healthily brought up.
