Looking at this cartoon, I believe, every reader will sink into meditation upon its intended meaning. As is depicted in the picture, every car, lorry and bus on the road moves at a rather slow speed, even no faster than the grandmotherly woman walking nearby together with her pet snail. Needless to say, this drawing is meant to emphasize the severity of the current traffic situation. It’s of no difficulty for us to come up with some contributing factors responsible for this phenomenon. Firstly, with the development of our economy, a growing number of families are rich enough to afford private cars. Based on a reliable official report, approximately 55% of the families in big cities have possessed their own motor vehicles. Secondly, it must be admitted that the public transport system still fail to keep up with the times. Finally, the fact cannot be ignored that the public have yet to improve their sense of environmental protection and drive their private cars less. Considering the arguments above, I’m inclined to view the phenomenon as abnormal and therefore intolerable. Accordingly, immediate measures must be taken to reverse the grim situation.
