答案 The future years will witness an increase in the number of senior citizens: from 140 million this year to 200 million in 2015, and then to 400 million in 2050. As we all know, a society will be defined as old when its senior citizens over the age of 60 reach 10% of the whole population. Consequently, this table shows that our society is stepping into the era of the so-called "aging society". The aging society will face many unfavorable consequences, although a majority of people are still ignorant of the problems it brings about. To begin with, an increasing number of senior citizens have been accompanied by the corresponding declining in the number of people active in the working force, which will lead to malfunction of traditional social welfare system. Moreover, apart from the irreversible decaying of health, mental hazards on the part of the old people may constitute a more formidable problem. Last but not least, aging poses an even greater threat to our country than to other industrialized nations because we are aging before we become rich. An aging society calls for urgent countermeasures to battle the potential negative effects. First things first, the chief task lies in taking care of the old people and helping them look after themselves. As everyone of us will get old, all the members in the society should join their hands together in creating a favorable environment for the old people. On the other hand, the old people themselves should never stop pursuing whatever they view important in life since "It is not the years in your life, but the life in your years that counts". No easy method can be at hand to solve the problem of aging populations. But the common recognition of the importance of the serious situations might be the first step on the right way.
