I now live in the United Kingdom where talking about the weather is always a topic of conversation. That is because here we have four different seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter, and each is distinctive and magnificent in its own way. I do appreciate the beauty of each, but if I had to take a pick, I’d go for autumn. This is a season that usually lasts for 3 months, from September to November each year, though it can shift a little if we have a long hot summer. Factually, autumn is the time of year when day starts to get shorter, the temperature cools down and trees shed its leaves to prepare themselves for the upcoming winter. You might think this would be depressing, but I don’t think so. For me, autumn is something of a relief. For one thing, I tend to get terrible hay fever in the summer from pollen. For another, I’m not great in the heat, so I find the temperature much more comfortable in autumn and I can do a lot more outdoor activities. In summer, people can have the whole season to hang out in the park, playing kites or picnicking. They can also go to lakes or rivers to fish or swim. However, in the autumn, most people stayed at home because of the coldness. Yet, cool as most of its days might be, there’re still some mild days to be enjoyed. What I like to do is wrap up warm and head for long walks in the light wind and have the countryside all to myself. I like to look out for wildlife on my walk. Sometimes, I go for a walk with friends just to enjoy the beautiful scenery. So, personally speaking, autumn is fabulous because of the lack of pollen which can causes hay fever. Also, having long country walks and enjoying the wonderful British countryside are great attractions.
