This, in brief, is what the drawer of this picture intends to suggest: today most parents are bound by the outdated prejudices that boys are superior to girls. Such a long-held notion is more pervasive, particularly in some poverty-stricken rural areas in China, for it is the firm belief of some parents there that they must have male offspring to support them when they will be stepping into an old age. Small wonder, great consequences follow that there arises the problem of gender gap. If the trend is allowed to persist, tensions or social problems must inevitably crop up.
