【B1】______He was traveling through Italy in 1859 when he came upon a little town where a battle had just taken place. About 40,000 men had been injured and there were not enough people to take care of them all. He did his best to help but it was a huge job. 【B2】______They were called the International Committee of the Red Cross. Their purpose was to take care of the wounded during wars and to help get the supplies that were needed to help them.
【B3】______The helpers need to be protected from attack, so they chose to use a red cross on a white background. That way, everyone would be able to recognize the group’ s members. It didn’ t matter whose side of the battle they were from.
【B4】______There are many people who are left after disasters who cannot help themselves. Just like in times of war, the Red Cross comes to their aid, too.
