Science Fiction
Among the most popular books being written today are those which are usually classified as science fictions. Hundreds of science fictions are published every year and are read by all kinds of people. What’s more, recent years some of the most successful films have been based on science fiction stories.
It is often thought that science fiction is a fairly new literature form, but its ancestors can be found in books which are written hundreds of years ago. These books were often concerned with the presentation of some ideal society forms, a theme which is still found often in modern stories. Most of the classic science fictions, however, have been written within the last hundred years. Books written by writers, to mention just two well-known authors such as Jules Verne and H. G. Wells, have been translated into many languages. Modern science fiction writers don’t write about men from Mars or other kinds of space adventures stories. They are more interested in predicting the results of technical developments on society and human mind, or imagining the future world. Thus their writings have obviously political undertones.
In an age when the scientific developments overtakes science fiction frequently, writers may find it difficult to keep ahead of scientific advances. Those who are extraordinarily clearly-sighted to see the way we will go, however, may provide a valuable lesson on how to deal with the problems which society will face with its new technologies.
