What’s the most common service in the post service?
W: Surely the number of letters posted nowadays has dropped because of the telephone?
M: Not a bit. Millions of letters and parcels are posted every working day.
W: I suppose most of the items are sent by the ordinary letter and parcel service.
M: Yes. They’re usually fine for everyday needs. But they’re not designed as compensation services.
W: What do you mean?
M: Well, you can’t receive any money from us if the item you’ve sent gets lost. We do pay some compensation.. . up to a maximum of £16.50 in fact, if it can be shown that the letter or a parcel was lost or damaged in the post.
W: That could be difficult to prove.
M: That’s why it’s better to ask the counter clerk for a certificate of posting which you’ll be asked to produce if the article does get lost.
W: Do you have other special services?
M: Yes, indeed. For sending money, or any other articles of special value you can use Registered Letter Post... or if you want to send a valuable article by parcel post, you can use the Compensation Fee Parcel Post.
W: I hadn’t realized that all these services were available.
选项
A、They have no claim on compensation.
B、They will get some compensation up to a maximum of 60.50 pounds.
C、If they can produce the certificate of posting, they can have a compensation claim.
D、They can accuse the post office of it.
答案
C
解析
细节题。如果普通信件丢失,邮局给予赔偿,最高赔偿金额为16.50英镑,所以可以排除选项A、B;如果寄信人要求赔偿,需要出示邮件丢失或损坏的证明。所以选C项。
