But a new study hints that being lean doesn’t get you【C3】_____off the health hook either. In a genetic(遗传学)analysis【C4】_____more than 75, 000 people, an international group of scientists led by Ruth Loos at the Medical Research Council in the U. K. found that lean people with a【C5】_____genetic【C6】_____were at higher【C7】_____of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease【C8】_____their lower body fat.
The key, say the scientists, is to【C9】_____not just the amount of fat, but the【C10】_____of fat that you might have. A growing body of evidence shows that fat【C11】_____just under the skin doesn’t contribute that much【C12】_____the development of metabolic disorders such as diabetes or heart problems. But fat【C13】_____in deeper tissues and organs, within muscle and【C14】_____in organs like the liver, for example, can put you at greater risk of these diseases. And that goes【C15】_____lean people too: they might not have much【C16】_____fat under the skin, but may be sequestering(隔绝,隔离)so-called visceral(内脏的)fat inside their body.
The findings【C17】_____the importance of refining our understanding of the relationship between weight, body fat and disease, says Loos. Many people who look lean may assume they are healthy and may not be as【C18】_____to get regular blood cholesterol tests. Getting【C19】_____checkups, regardless of your weight, she says, may help more people to【C20】_____healthy and avoid diabetes and heart problems.
