S. smartphone owners aged 18 to 24 send 2,022 texts and receive 1,831 texts per month on average, nearly doubling those by their slightly older peers aged 25 to 34, almost ten times as many as those by smartphone owners over 55. While it’s not particularly surprising that young Americans send more texts than their parents, their texting behavior actually has brought consequences. To begin with, despite the convenience, mobile phones could flame tensions between parents and their kids. This most happens when parents exert some measures of control over their children’s mobile phone—limiting its uses, checking its contents and using it to monitor the whereabouts of their offspring. What’s more, texting can be a major source of distraction in class. It is really a pitiful sight when you see a teacher teaching something the students should be learning while the students are resorting to their mobile phones to kill time. Therefore, certain limits must be laid on how young adults should use their devices, especially in a classroom.
