A phenomenon emerges that an increasing number of on-job people, especially those in their 20 ’s or early 30 ’s, return to university out of various reasons. Some people return to school in the hope of temporarily avoiding pressures from current work and life, while others intend to grasp the golden opportunity for self-advancement and improvement before it is too late. How do you think of the phenomenon?

答案
Back to School for Self-Improvement or Shelter? Now, a popular trend that on-job people return to university arouses people’s concern. Some return to school with an aim to shelter from pressures, while some others desire for self-improvement. From my perspective, when taking knowledge, technique, diploma and acquaintanceship acquisition into consideration, I firmly applause for the latter one. First, they should return to university to gain special skills for being more career-oriented. They, working over a span of years, know better what capacities and professional skills they are deficient in. What’s more, they may return to get the diploma and advanced knowledge that will contribute to pay rise, promotion, new employment or career hopping. Additionally, they return for making acquaintance with more elites. Students with perceptive insight can exchange views and then optimize their resources available. While those who return to university to shelter from burden should face reality for reasons below. First, it is a waste of time and money to wander in school without concrete goals. If they devote the equal time and money to their jobs, they will gain greater achievements and profits. Moreover, they are likely to miss opportunities of promotion or training in work. In addition, since they will be confronted with employment and pressures again in the near future, it is useless and even risky to consider university as an ivory tower. According to the discussion above, on-job people should return to university for self-improvement rather than for shelter.
