The most outstanding feature is that, during this period, the death rate of men due to heart attack was significantly higher than that of women. In addition, the proportion of men and women dying of heart attacks rose steadily from 2001 to 2004. The number of women who died of heart attacks increased from 40 to 44.2 per 100,000 persons while the number of men climbed from 60.5 to 68.3 per 100,000 persons. In conclusion, during this period, heart attacks remained a major threat to people’s health in Hong Kong and men were more likely to be the victims of heart attacks.
