Mr. and Mrs. Rajah Hassim were going to eat out. Mr. Hassim telephoned in the morning and reserved (预定) a table in Spring Restaurant.
They arrived there at seven o’ clock and asked the head waiter where their table was.
"What was the name, sir?" asked the waiter.
" Hassim," answered Mr. Hassim.
The head waiter checked his reservation list and said, "I’m sorry, sir. There’ s no Hassim in the list. And I’ ve got no free tables. "
Mr. and Mrs. Hassim both began to look annoyed.
"No reservation? Impossible! I want to see the manager. "
When the manager came, Mr. Hassim said angrily, " Your waiter says I have no reservation. I rang here at 10 o’ clock this morning and made one. The name is Hassim. "
"I’m very sorry, sir, but there’ s no Hassim on our list. I’m sure we haven’t made a mistake. " Mr. Hassim’ s face began to go dark with anger. " There is only one table not taken," said the manager, "and that’ s in the name of Rajah. "
"Oh?" Mr. Hassim looked strange, "Rajah’ s my name, too. I must have used that when I made the reservation. I am really sorry. "
"That’ s quite all right, sir," said the manager. " I’ll show you to your table. "
