答案
These two pie graphs indicate the changes of single-parent families in the United States in 1970 and 1990. The graphs show that in 1970, children in 87. 1 percent of all families had two parents. By 1990, this percentage had fallen to 71: 9 percent. Thus the number of single-parent families grew rapidly, and almost one-third of children in the USA in 1990 lived in this kind of families. Generally speaking, single parenthood—six times as common among women as among men—may result from divorce, wars, or the desire to have a child without marriage which is morally unacceptable in Oriental cultures. Most researches suggest that growing up in a broken family can have negative effects on children. Divorce is the hardest on children, leaving emotional scars (伤痕) in their minds. What is more, broken families may lead to other social problems, including poverty, welfare dependency, crime and drug abuse, thus threatening social stability.
