Live music ranging from samba to rock explodes along the beach. New Year’s Eve is also a day to honor the goddess of sea with conventional offerings packed in small wooden boats. Tradition holds that if the goddess is pleased with a boat’s offering, she will carry the boat out to sea and give the bearer blessings. If not, it’s a great party.
