Major Steps: Step 1 Pre-listening (3 minutes) (1) Teach some phrases by using pictures, such as ride a horse, milk a cow and feed chickens. (2) Ask students to talk about two questions: Where did you go for your holiday? How was your trip? (Justification: Through learning these phrases, students will have a better understanding of this conversation. Asking questions can arouse students’ interest.) Step 2 While-listening (7 minutes) (1) Ask students to listen to the tape for the first time and find out the topiC. (2) Ask students to listen to the tape for the second time and complete the exercise of True or False. ① Carol rode a horse yesterday. ( ) ② Carol saw some chickens and fed these chickens. ( ) ③ Carol and friends went for a walk around the farm and talked with a farmer.( ) (3) Play the tape for students and ask them to listen and repeat. Ask students to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation. (Justification: Students can enhance their listening ability through different listening activities and have a chance to practice the pronunciation and intonation.) Step 3 Post-listening (5 minutes) (1) Find the common point ① I saw quite a lot. ② I milked a cow. ③ I saw some chickens but I didn’t feed them. ④ My friends and I went for a walk around the farm and talked with a farmer. Ask students to find out the common point—the simple past tense and review it. Remind students to talk about past events with the simple past tense. (2) Make up a conversation Ask students to make up a new conversation about the National Day holiday. Then invite some groups to perform in front of the class. For example: A: Where did you go on your holiday? B: I went to Qingdao. A: What did you do in Qingdao? B: I went to the beach and saw the sea. (Justification: This step can help students review the simple past tense and making up a conversation can improve their speaking ability and enhance their confidence in speaking in publiC.)
