How to get there
Start in the city of Dali and driver northwards, along the Yunnan - Tibet Highway until you reach Zhongdian (Shangri-La), the capital of Diqing, Zhongdian is 659 kilometers away from Kunming and there are regular flights between Zhongdian and Kunming.
The world-famous Chinese Shangri-La
The word "Shangri-La" first appeared in the 1933 novel lost horizon by the British writer James Hilton. He described a beautiful kingdom where three rivers joined together, snow-caped mountains reached to the sky, and fields of long grass covered the earth, in this perfect world lived people who had discovered how to stay young forever.
Which place could officially take the name of this wonderful land? There were arguments in China over which tourist spot would win the names of Shangri - La. Many years after the book was published, some people realized that the Shangri-La of the novel perfectly described the county of Zhongdian in Yunnan Province, China. IN September 1997, the government of Yunnan Province claimed that Zhongdian is where Shangri-La is in Hilton’ story.
What you will see in Shangri-La
Three mountains, Meili, Baimang and Haba, which are covered with snow, tower over the land. Their snowy mountaintops form a beautiful picture that will leave you at a loss for words. Below the mountains, the sunshine reflects on the many lakes, making them shine like diamonds against the rich countryside. Sheep, cattle and horses wander on the green grass, and the surrounding forests are home to many birds and animals. In this peaceful land, people live in perfect harmony with nature, far away from the noise and worry of the outside world. Nature has provided Shangri-La with endless natural treasures, making the land a happy home for the local people.
What the weather is like
The weather changes so quickly that people say you can experience four seasons in one day. The best times to visit Shangri-La are spring and autumn when the temperature is at its mildest.

Part 1 Weather Para 2 History Para 3 Routes Para 4 Scenes Para 5 Brief introduction 2.Whole class work: Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions: 1) Where is Shangri-La? 2) How can we get there? (2 routes) 3) What’s Shangri-La like? 4) What can we see in Shangri-La? 5) When is the best time to visit Shangri-La? Why? Justification: Through reading a sample writing, students will have a better understanding about the main content of leaflet writing. Step 3 While-writing (10 mins) 1.Group discussion: Plan a travel leaflet of Qixia Mountain and fill in the following blanks: [*] 2.Group work: Make a leaflet of Qixia Mountain and report to the class. Teacher presents some suggested useful words and phrases on PowerPoint. [*] Justification: With an instruction of outline and useful expressions, students will be able to complete their own leaflet writing and better improve their writing process. 3.Post-writing (3 mins) (1) Teacher shows some correction criterion and guides students to exchange their writings in pairs and then correct their leaflet according to the criterion. (2) Divide the whole class into groups of 4 and guide students to correct their writing in groups and choose the best two writing. Then teacher makes some comments in front of the classroom. Justification: Through correction in pairs and in groups, students will fully and perfectly get exact skills of writing a leaflet. 4.Summary e Homework (2 mins) (1) The teacher asks one or two students to make summaries about what they have learned in the class and if necessary, teacher makes some supplements and clarifies the emotional objective in this class. (2) Try to search more information about the following questions: ①Besides the 5 aspects, what else can you introduce? ②There are many volunteers doing cleaning on Qixia Mountain, why?
