Some people believe that success comes from taking risks or chances, while others believe that careful planning is the best way to achieve success. What does success come from in your opinion? Write an essay of about 400 words on the following topic:
Taking Risks or Preparing a Plan
In the first part of your essay you should state clearly your main argument, and in the second part you should support your argument with appropriate details. In the last part you should bring what you have written to a natural conclusion or make a summary.
Marks will be awarded for content, organization, grammar and appropriateness. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.

Taking Risks or Preparing a Plan What is the best way towards success? There may be hundreds of different answers according to various experiences and understandings. However, most suggestions are one of two possible extremes: to take risks and grasp opportunity whenever you can or to plan carefully before taking any action. It is confusing that both types have successful examples and failures. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the courage to take risks is even more precious than careful planning. This is mainly because of the following reasons. Primarily speaking, taking risks means that you’re not so sure about the outcome of your action and the possibility of failure. To be frank, nobody can be so sure about the final result until it really happens, and if we dare not try, success will never come to knock on our door. To take risks, we should first separate risk from danger. Risk refers to the matter with uncertainty or be mild discomfort, while danger refers to the state in which you may lose your life or badly injured or harmed. It is common for us to mistake risk for danger, so we are always reluctant to take risks in fear of dangerous consequences. If we realize that failure is acceptable, why not go and have a try? Anyway, many may feel miserable for losing a game, but no one can win it without even trying. On the contrary, however, taking risks without planning is sometimes dangerous, for absence of judgment is a risk and real danger. But over-careful planning may cause the loss of good opportunities, which will never come back again. And a man who must ensure every step usually takes no step at all. There’s no perfect plan, for there are always unexpected accidents which may affect the results in a surprising way. Thus, there’s always a risk for us to take, as long as we want to achieve success. For the reasons stated above, the most efficient way to achieve success is to take risks with careful planning. We should make sure that there’s no danger and then use risk-free, adventurous strategy to defeat the difficulties and obstacles. As it is said, no pain, no gain. Whenever you’re afraid of the pains you may suffer, just think of the gains on the other side.
