答案 The pie chart illustrates the different sources of carbon emissions. As can be seen, business electricity accounts for 28% of the emissions, immediately followed by cars and trucks (26%). A further 25% is from business heating, and 10% from home heating. The remaining shares are occupied by home electricity (7%) and MBTA (4%). It is immediately evident that carbon emissions from business electricity and vehicles take up over half of the total share. I think measures need to be taken to curb the rampant emissions from these two sources. For instance, emission taxes could be levied on car users on a cascading basis. Similar pricing scheme could be adopted for business electricity consumption. Each business has a certain quota for the tax-free consumption, but for the extra usage of business electricity, emission tax is imposed. It is hoped that taxation would discourage the unnecessary and excessive use of vehicles and business electricity, so as to lessen carbon emissions.
