On one hand, traditional festivals were passed down from generation to generation with profound history. People are deeply influenced by Chinese custom and culture. Many traditional festivals are closely related to the change of seasons, and stress the importance of family reunion, such as Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. They cater for people’s need to rest and be reunited with family. On the other hand, many foreign festivals are based on religious belief, such as Christmas and Easter, so most Chinese don’t understand their nature and could only celebrate them on a superficial level. They just imitate what foreign people do.
