One reason for this is that the United States is a large country with a variety of climates. Most of the central part of the country is especially suitable for raising grain. Florida has warm weather all year round, so it can provide vegetables for the rest of the country in the middle of winter. Even When it is snowing in New York, the people there can still eat fresh tomatoes and green vegetables that have been shipped north from Florida.
