    The shoes—named Square Eyes—have an electronic sensor and a small computer chip(芯片)to record how many steps on the wearer has taken in a day.     The idea was encouraged by a wish to fight against overweight among British teenagers, says Gillian Swan, who developed Square Eyes. "We considered the problems and childhood overweight really stood out. " She says, "And I wanted to work out that with my idea. "
    Once a child has used up their daily allowance(许可)got through exercise, the television itself turns off. And further time in front of the TV can only be got through more steps.
    Swan thought over how exercise should translate to television time. Health experts suggest that a child take 12,000 steps each day and watch no more than two hours of television. So, every 100 steps recorded by the Square Eyes shoes means one minute of TV time.
    Other similar sports shoes normally keep count of steps by measuring(测量)sudden movement. Swan says people may easily get recording steps through shaking. But her shoes have been built to be harder for lazy teenagers to cheat. " It is possible, but it would be a lot of effort," she says. "That was one of my main invention considerations. "
