The unexpected and unfortunate nuclear leakage accident in Fukushima Nuclear Power Station has given risen to wide concerns around the world and aroused protests and parades against the development and utilization of nuclear energy, on which a colossal number of people, especially Japanese, have reached consensus. Nevertheless, I hold the different opinion that we should still insist on the development and utilization of nuclear energy. Above all, the development and utilization of nuclear energy is the choice of reality, considering the booming population and surging development of the global economy. It has not occurred to protesters that the power supply can hardly meet the basic demands from both citizens and industries without the prominent role played by nuclear power, especially in small countries like Japan, who suffers from insufficient natural resources in contrast to its population. The path of nuclear energy is unavoidable. Secondly, I reckon that much voiced opposition to nuclear energy stems from the contemporary anxiety because of the accident in Fukushima. But they’ve failed to realize that even fire can also claim the lives of people. However, we can’t and also shouldn’t therefore prohibit the appearance of flames. Nuclear leakage can endanger flora and fauna. Nonetheless, we can’t and also shouldn’t forbid the development and utilization of nuclear energy. We shouldn’t let the accident frighten rationality out of our mind. Nuclear energy is the choice of reality and the selection of reason. What people should do is to develop and use nuclear energy with more caution as well as determination, but not give up eating for fear of choking.
