Solutions to Release of Testing Anxiety When taking an examination, many students tend to become worried and nervous. Their minds cannot work as well as they usually do and even go numb. As a result they get low grades that do not show their real abilities. Many factors contribute to students’ testing anxiety. One reason is that some students don’t work hard enough and they don’t try to develop good study habits. They don’t preview lessons before class or review them after class. They seldom take notes in class and fail to hand in their assignments. Some students spend so much time playing computer games, watching TV, visiting friends and doing part-time jobs that they often miss classes and seldom think of their studies. Another reason is that some students don’t feel confident in themselves and they are afraid of failures. Thus, they become so tense in an exam that they don’t know how to answer the questions. Then what a student should do in order to cope with such testing anxiety? The students need to develop good study habits, and hard work always pays off. Before taking a test, effective reviewing is important, but excessive work should be avoided. Too much work, plus lack of sleep, can create more stress and make you a dull boy. Remember, you need a calm and clear mind on the exam day. Besides, while taking a test, the most important thing for you to do is keep your self-confidence. Of course, some anxiety or tension is not unusual, but too much tension will prevent you from performing as well as you are able to. You should try to be relaxed both physically and mentally. If you can overcome your nervousness, you will let your mind work more efficiently and successfully in getting through the test.
