M:If you’ve decided you need a new job, where do you start to look? What kinds of resources are avail-able?Who are the best people to talk to?Actually most jobs are advertised as current vacancies.
They appear in the local and national press, trade journals, and specialist career publications. In ad-dition,many professional bodies offer an appointments sewice which can help job seekers find a suitable position in a particular industry.Recruitment agencies hold details of a wide range of vacan-cies,and possibly local training schemes. The Internet is a valuable resourcenot only for vacan-cies but to find background information on companies.Approximately one third of jobs are never advertised, but may be found by approaching a company directly. This is called a speculative applica-tion,and is common among students starting at the bottom of the career ladder. Finally, don’t forget to use your personal contacts! If you have reached the interview stage, your CV and letter of appli-cation must have been impressive! The company now wants to know more about you.But there is still more work to do if you want to get that job!Make sure you have researched the company as thoroughly as possible。use the Internet, company reports, recruitment literature etc.Remind yourself of why you applied to this company. Make a list of the skills, experience, and interests you can offer the organization.Don’t forget to predict the questions you will be expected to answer-imagine you are the interviewer!
