The National Fitness Program Along with the remarkable achievements of China’s competitive sports in recent years, the concept of national fitness is gaining more popularity and striking deeper roots in people’s hearts. The success of Beijing Olympics has stirred wide social concern with the National Fitness Program. However, compared with the eye-catching performance of competitive sports, China still has a long way to go in mass sports activities. For one thing, the awareness of physical fitness is not strong enough for many people, who usually ignore exercising. For another, existing sports facilities cannot meet the needs of people due to inadequacy or high fees. Therefore, practical and effective measures are expected to be taken to reinforce the implementation of the National Fitness Program. First of all, the government should invest more in installing fitness equipment with reasonable charges throughout the country. In addition, it is right for the famous sporting champions to guide the public in keeping fit through sports. To sum up, joint efforts should be made to promote the development of mass sports.
