But complacency could be a fatal error.     Yet because AIDS is occurring later in Asia than in other continents, Asians can benefit from the knowledge gained at a heavy price elsewhere: AIDS can be transmitted through heterosexual as well as homosexual contact and prevention through education is the key—indeed the only—defense so far available. In the words of Dr. Mann, "the opportunity for protection of Asia against widespread dissemination of HIV"—the AIDS virus—"is obvious and may be vital to the future of the continent. "
