Experts have learned from studying other disasters, such as Oklahoma City bombing, the【C1】______of Sept. 11 and the【C2】______of TWA Flight 800, that the psychological effects of the tragedy may【C3】______for months, and in some people for years. Those who are most vulnerable are at highest【C4】______of developing long-lasting symptoms, dubbed post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Without【C5】______, these people can【C6】______impaired personal relationships, job loss or difficulty socializing with others.
Many more Americans, who may be【C7】______what experts call "a normal reaction to an【C8】______event" , will start to feel better over the next few days or weeks. Researchers say it is common for people to experience a plethora of symptoms as they【C9】______to come to grips with their shock and unexpected【C10】______like the Columbia’s demise.
Saturday’s tragedy may also【C11】______relapses in patients who were【C12】______successfully with PTSD, experts say. No one can be sure who among us will end up suffering【C13】______psychological or emotional【C14】______. But some people are at a higher risk than others. That is because most have no personal【C19】______with the tragic events. "Most people don’t have a【C20】______who is involved with space travel ," says Dr. Holly Schneier, an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Columbia University, " and few people observed the disaster first-hand. "
Schneier also says people don’t identify with the astronaut in the same way they did with the victim of Sept. 11. "We all know they had a high-risk job and they understood that risk, "she ex-plains. "That’s not like going to the office for a routine day of work and fully expecting to come home and then dying in a terrorist attack. "
【C16】
选项
A、whether
B、weather
C、although
D、though
答案
A
