In the picture, a couple of bride and groom wearing extravagant clothes stand happily on a stage piled up with cash, and it is their stressed-out, sweaty aging parents who are holding the pile of money. The picture vividly depicts and lampoons a bad tendency of luxury wedding in the current society. It seems to me that the cartoonist is sending a message about luxury wedding: behind a happy wedding there may be some sad faces. He seems to be saying that in order to hold a lavish wedding, some young people would rather get into debt, and make not only themselves but also their parents be faced with the severe financial burden. In my opinion, there are many reasons for the phenomenon, but the following two are most important: one is the young people’s vanity and blind competition with others; the other is parents’ tolerance and spoiling their children. This simple picture is a wake-up call for the whole society. Therefore, it is imperative for us to take drastic measures to put an end to the luxury wedding beyond one’s economic capacity. On one hand, we should teach the youth to establish a correct outlook on marriage, and make them realize that a happy marriage lies in their lasting love but not a luxury wedding. On the other hand, parents should not spoil their children or meet their unreasonable demands. Only in this way can we halt the phenomenon that the picture depicts.
