When will the count be finished?

The Philippine election commission has begun its official count of votes from this week’s general elections, as an unofficial count shows President Gloria Arroyo’s coalition still in the lead.
   It is expected to take the commission two weeks to complete its count, which began Friday. The focus of the tally will be the race for 13 seats in the 24-member Senate.
   Unofficial and partial results after Monday’s elections show administration candidates leading for eight Senate seats. Ms. Arroyo’s coalition needs nine of them to preserve a solid majority.
   Candidates aligned with jailed former President Joseph Estrada, including his wife, Lot Ejercito, are predicted to win four seats. Philippine senators are elected nationally, with the top 13 finishers winning seats.
   Meanwhile, a court in Manila Friday ordered Mr. Estrada returned to prison, one week ’after he was flown to a military hospital for a medical check-up. The deposed president is accused of economic plunder.  He is awaiting trial.
