W: Oh, George, I feel terrible. I told Professor Smith that John cheated in the economics test.
M: You did what?
W: I had to, George. I had no choice. Yesterday Professor Smith asked me to go to his office. He said that I failed the mid-term test quite badly. Even John, who seemed to do no work at all in class, managed to do so much better than I.
M: And then?
W: He asked me if there was anything that I wanted to talk about. And he pointed out that me and John just didn’ t seem as close as we used to be. There must be something wrong.
M: So you told him about John?
W: Yes. But at first I didn’t say it was John who cheated. I said that I had this friend, and she had a problem. She thought a friend of hers was doing something wrong and now she didn’ t know what to do. If she reported him, he’ d know it was her and probably wouldn’ t ever speak to her again. But, if she didn’t report him, he’ d just get away with it.
M: Then what did Professor Smith say?
W: Well, he asked me what I thought my friend should do. I said I didn’ t have a clue. He then said I could tell my friend that he was extremely suspicious about someone ’ s unusually high test score recently, and he also overheard some very worrying comments about photocopying being very easy.
M: It seemed that he already knew who cheated in the test.
W: Yes, so I told him it was John.
M: I think you are right.
W: Really? Do you think so?
M: Yes, if I were you, I would do the same.
Questions 13 to 14 are based on the conversation you have just heard.
13. Why did the woman feel terrible?
14. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the conversation?
选项
A、John cheated in the test.
B、George passed the economics test.
C、The woman failed the economics test.
D、Professor Smith knew that somebody cheated in the test.
答案
B
解析
本题是对细节进行提问。根据对话中的“I told Professor Smith that John cheated in the economics test.”可知,约翰考试作弊了,所以选项A正确。根据对话中的“He said that I failed the mid-term test quite badly.”可知,女士没有通过经济学的考试。根据对话中的“…he was extremely suspicious about someone’s unusually high test score…”和“It seemed that he already knew who cheated in the test.”可知,史密斯教授知道有人考试作弊。对话中并没有提到“乔治通过了考试”,所以选项B不正确。故选B。
