答案 Piracy "Piracy" means the publishing, reproducing of a book, CD, VCD, tape, etc. without permission. Since the originals are too expensive, especially for the working class or students, they always prefer the piracies. As a matter of fact, piracy has been such a serious social problem in China nowadays that no one can ignore it. Though piracy enables the books, CDs, VCDs or tapes to be available to our society. It is harmful to our society. First, piracy violates the intellectual property right in that both the authors and the publishers may suffer big losses. Second, it gives rise to low quality books, CDs, etc. and there is no way to trace the sources. Finally, piracy damages our image, which puts our country in a disadvantageous position in international negotiations. With China’s entry into the World Trade Organization(WTO), cracking down on piracy has been put on the agenda. In my view, laws must be improved in accordance with new situations and on the other hand, the government has a lot to do to make the natives aware of the damages of piracy to the society.
