答案 The three measures of protecting the environment listed above are all significant. But I think the first one is of upmost importance as it provides a sustainable solution to the major environmental problems presented today. To protect the environment, we should realize and acknowledge that human activities are the major cause of the most severe environmental crisis that is going on: global warming. Therefore, the most important measure to protect the environment should be the one that helps address this issue. The other two measures, though indispensable and having been carried out for a long time, they do not go straight to the heart of the matter—global warming. Funding research to develop environmentally friendly energy, such as solar and wind energy, will be conducive to reducing the use of fossil fuels, which causes the majority of carbon dioxide emissions and leads to global warming. With the rise of temperature, the sea level is rising at a growing speed annually, affecting the people living in coastal areas. More places in the world have already witnessed an increasing number of extreme weather incidents. Developing alternative energy, which does not result in CO2 emission, thus shows great potential to slow the speed of global warming. Developing clean energy will also change the public’s attitudes towards the resources on earth. People will start, to realize that the resources on earth are limited and we should not run out of them. By using more clean energy, we are giving back space, land and resources to other life that inhabits the earth. This will thus help better protect the forests, lakes and animals, as suggested in the second measure in the question. It is a trend for countries to develop new energy and many achievements have been made. Now we have witnessed an increasingly large number of applications of clean energy such as solar panel boilers and electric cars. I believe that more new inventions are yet to come. While the other two measures proposed in the question have been implemented for years without making significant breakthroughs, new energy will be a game changer in the course of environmental protection.
