当一首诗歌被老师或学生大声吟诵之后,才能够讨论与分析它。也许最好是读两遍,一遍是在讨论前,而另一遍则在讨论之后。因此,诗歌的吟诵应该在最后听到。事实上,对于诗歌的所有讨论都是大声吟诵前的准备,最后吟诵诗歌是对诗歌最清晰的理解,将音调、韵律和含义一同展现出来。昕到他或她自己的嗓音吟诵的诗歌在求音、电影中出现,显然是一种特殊的回报。但是即使是这些辅助教学的手段,也不能代替学生和老师对诗歌的吟诵,最好的方法是背诵诗歌。事实上,我已经开始考虑如果没有时间做到两者兼顾的话,那么花时间大声吟诵诗歌要比分析诗歌更重要。我认为作为英语老师,我们目的之一是让学生热爱诗歌。诗歌是“生活的批评”和“生活的升华”,它是“表达真正情感的方法”。而且,它“能够挽救你的生命”。它也值得在语言和文学教学中拥有比目前更居于中心的位置。我并不是说每个英语老师都必须教诗歌。那些不喜欢诗歌的人不应该被强迫将不喜欢的东西强加给其他人。但是那些教授诗歌的人必须记住有关诗歌的基本特征、诗歌的音律和诗歌的感觉,而且他们必须在教室里留出聆听诗歌和思考诗歌的空间。

I have come to think。in fact,that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than “analyzing”it.if there isn’t time for both.I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry.Poetry is“a criticism of life”,and“a heightening of life”.It is“an approach to the truth of feeling”,and it“can save your life”.It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies. I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry.Those who don’t like it should not be forced to put that dislike on anyone else.But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind fl few things about its essential nature,about its sound as well as its sense,and they must make room in the classroom for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it.
