This proverb lays great importance on diligence. Diligence is the key to success. Only by working diligently can we achieve our goals. Diligence is one of the traditional Chinese virtues. An ancient scholar hung his hair on the beam and pierced into his flesh to avoid sleeping more than necessary. The late Chairman Mao Zedong usually worked till midnight; while Benjamin Franklin, as an apprentice, imitated and practiced writing after Addison and Steeler repeatedly and then formed his writing style. However, diligence does not necessarily mean exerting oneself around the clock without rest, food or sleep. The true meaning of diligence is to use time carefully for the purpose of improvement, or to work persistently without wasting time. An English proverb says, "Lost time is never found again." Time is precious and is one of those many things that cannot be purchased with money. Therefore, we must make good use of our time and study hard when we are young. Lazy hands make a man poor, while diligent hands bring wealth.
