答案 Telephone Goes into Hundreds of Thousands of Homes The last less than 10 years telephone service in China developed rapidly. Home phone which used to be thought of as luxury has become a common thing in more and more average homes. From the graph we understand that in 1998, the city possessed only 50 000 home phones because of the low living standard of people. Since then, however, on account of the reform and open-door policy and the steady growth of our national economy, we have become wealthy enough to be able to afford home phones. Especially over the last five years the installation of home phones went a big step forward. Compared with home phones in 2002, the number doubled in 2004, eight times as many as that in 1998. The fast increase in home phones not only indicates that Chinese people are well off, but also shows we are eager to participate in social communication and to acquire more and quicker information in different fields. It is certain that telephone will play an increasingly positive role in both our work and play.
